Registros

Records on 75 species of the class Mammalia, classified in 27 families and 10 orders (Ramírez-Chaves et al., 2016, 2021). The families with the highest number of recorded species were , Didelphidae (7 species), Felidae (6 species) and Cervidae (6 species). The families with the highest number of records were Dasyproctidae (38474 records), Cuniculidae (15878 records) and Didelphidae (12968 records). The most abundant species were Dasyprocta punctata (34822 records), Cuniculus paca (15312 records) and Didelphis marsupialis (9288 records). Designation to which ranks of taxa are reviewed with the current national list (Ramírez-Chaves et al., 2016, 2021) and validated with taxonomic national experts.

Datos del proyecto
To advance in the update of the red list of mammals in Colombia, the Humboldt Institute identified and consolidated biological records of mammal species obtained by camera traps between 2013 and 2022, following the DwC standard.

Descripción del área de estudio | The study area comprises the national continental territory of Colombia. Specifically, it compiles records of 821 localities distributed in 53 municipalities and 19 departments. |
Descripción del diseño | The compilation of records of Colombian mammals through the use of camera traps is one of the Institute's contributions to the process of categorizing the mammals of Colombia. It also offers the opportunity to generate the most complete dataset for this group in the country obtained by photo-trapping. |

Métodos de muestreo
We systematized and standardized the photo-trapping data collected in different studies that had not been published for the last 9 years. Finally, the information received was grouped in a database in Darwin Core format.
Área de Estudio | The information represents the effort to publish information to recognize the diversity of mammals and maintain their presence in the country to monitor changes in species over time and identify key sites for their conservation. For this purpose, camera-trap data obtained in different projects between 2013 and 2022 were collected in 712 localities in 20 departments. |
---|---|
Control de Calidad | Scientific names were refined to be consistent with current taxonomy, based on literature on mammalian taxonomy and following the lists most updated species for the country (Ramírez-Chaves et al., 2016, 2021). Additionally, the databases were also refined, including only information at the species level, and with coordinates that were within the continental areas of Colombia, and corroborated under the standards of the BioModelos Program of the Instituto Humboldt (Velásquez-Tibatá et al., 2019). |
Descripción de la metodología paso a paso:
- A final data set of mammal species was obtained from the following procedure: 1. The information was organized following the Darwin Core standard for the documentation of biological records. 2. Names were validated according to Burgin et al. (2020) and for species not included there, information available in portals such as the IUCN Red List (https://www.iucnredlist.org/), and the most updated species lists for the country (Ramirez-Chaves et al., 2016, 2021) were followed. 3. For the validation of the geographic information, the routines of the BioModelos program were used and records with erroneous georeferencing were eliminated. The names of the departments and municipalities were also adjusted according to the Divipola data Portal. All data processing was carried out in the software R
